FTE is one of my favourite text editors with millions of features. It supports tags and very powerful indentation styles. It can list functions in C and other source files and interpret compiler errors. FTE comes with syntax highlighting, implemented as a state machine, for an enormous spectrum of file types (C, HTML, REXX, Makefile, SH, MAN pages, etc). Finally, it is extremely configurable and very intuitive.
I have recently downloaded the source code for this editor from its official development website, which hasn't been updated for some time, made several minor improvements and compiled a DOS port using DJGPP. You can download it here.
