Thesis Topic: Politics of Global Desire: ‘Contact Moments’ of Japanese Male-Queer Culture with the West in Post-War Japan

Summary

My thesis endeavours to shed light on the ‘contact moments’ between Japanese male-queer culture and that of the West (Euro-American) in post-war Japan. By focusing on a range of Japanese male-queer materials within which the interaction of the two cultures is represented, it examines the ways in which such interaction affected the identity formation process of Japanese queer selves in that period of time. Materials to be analysed in this research include Japanese queer-oriented magazines, novels, books, zines, and cyber-texts.
